Graduation Requirements

Credit Requirements

Earn 23.5 credits to graduate:

  • 15.5 required credits

  • Additional credits: 8.0 (can be taken from any department)


Mathematics (3 credits required)

  • Math 9 (1 credit)
  • 2 additional math credits

Social Studies (3 credits required)

  • Grade 9 - American Institutions (1 credit) OR AP American Government (1 credit) OR Action Civics (1 credit)
  • Grade 10 - Global Studies (.5 credit) OR AP Human Geography (1 credit) OR AP World History (1 credit)
  • Grade 11 - 20th Century American (1 credit) OR AP US History (1 credit) OR American Studies (1 credit)
  • One additional social science class senior year to equal 3 total credits of social studies. 

Science (3 credits required)

  • Grade 9 - Physical Science (1 credit) OR Honors Physical Science (1 credit)
  • Grade 10 - Biology (1 credit) OR Honors Chemistry (1 credit)
  • Grade 11 - Chemistry (1 credit) OR Honors Chemistry (1 credit) OR AP Biology (2 credits) OR additional science credit

English (4 credits required)

  • Grade 9 - English 9 (1 credit) OR Honors English 9 (1 credit)
  • Grade 10 - English 10 (1 credit) OR Honors English 10 (1 credit)
  • Grade 11 - English 11 (1 credit)  OR AP Language and Composition (1 credit) OR American Studies (1 credit)
  • Grade 12- 1 credit of English electives

Physical Education (1.5 credits required)

  • Grade 9- Physical Education (.5 credit)
  • Grade 10- Fitness for Life (.5 credit)
  • One additional physical education elective

Health (.5 credit required)


Financial Literacy (.5 credit required)

  • Finance DE (.5 credit) OR Consumer Education (.5 credit)

The College, Career and Life Ready Canvas Course

All students have access to the CCLR course to help ensure they are on track for life after high school regardless of their chosen path: college, military or workforce. Through the course and advisory class, students are guided through a variety of academic, career and life lessons to help them identify post-secondary options that are a good fit for them.  Students have a multitude of resources and opportunities available while at DCE, which are often outlined in the course, such as: 

  • Academic and Career Planning (ACP) lessons
  • Life Ready lessons
  • Seminars that are tailored to specific grade levels
  • College, employer and military recruiters
  • Events and field trips to help students explore options 

Parents and guardians can view their child’s College, Career and Life Ready progress:

  • Log in using your observer account credentials
  • Select the College, Career and Life Ready Course from the dashboard
  • Explore weekly modules, activities, and reflections
